Web go to offline

Firefox 3 to support offline application. Prism is an application that takes web apps to the desktop. Prism isn't a proprietary platform, but rather gives any web application that runs in a standards-compliant browser its own window and icons on the desktop. Right now, that's all Prism does. It doesn't add any offline functionality or give apps things like file system access, but Mozilla seems to hint about developments in that direction in the Labs announcement. Amigo Challenge

The Amigo project has developed an open-source software layer enabling the creation of intelligent networked home environments. The developed software is free and can be easily extended to fit new ideas. Now it's time to handover the software to the community and call on them to continue the development and make it a success story. This is the point where you and your team come in. Take our software, explore and deploy it and ‘Create your World’. The best ideas will be rewarded. The Amigo Challenge is divided into three categories. The categories are: Hardware Link your favorite hardware to the Amigo software layer, integrate it and let it interact with the intelligent networked home environment. Software Create a new intelligent service or application using the Amigo software layer. Free Style Your idea doesn't fit into the above categories? No problem. The Free Style-category is open for all ideas. Here you have the chance to surprise the community with a „go-crazy“ approach. Use the Amigo software layer for a completely different task and show us what we have never ever thought about. The Amigo Challenge closes at January 31st, 2008 Visit the Amigo Challenge website at http://challenge.amigo-project.org for more details. A jury of international experts will judge the submitted ideas and reward the best ones in each category with the following prizes:
  1. Prize: 750 Euro
  2. Prize: 500 Euro
  3. Prize: 250 Euro
In addition, the winning teams will be invited to attend the Amigo Open Day on February 28, 2008 at Philips Research at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Create your World!

Why OSGi?

OSGi is being adopted in an increasing number of projects. The spec provides a common model for writing and deploying apps to local or remote computers in modularized form. Instead of creating monolithic app, the OSGi spec allows the collaboration of many small components. This pres shows you why a spec like OSGi is crucial, what it really encompasses, and what the future developments will be. OSGi: The Foundation

Open source grows

Most people do not want a business, they just want the money! And they work just for money. It's excellent if you want only money and nothing else. But where are many people who's want work for idea. Work this technologies they like and technologies which can be improved by them. Personally to me the idea of open source is interesting. Open source gives people what they want. Reading The Business of Open Source article I ask my self two questions: Do I really want develop outsourcing software? Can I earn money from Open Source?
